 POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

SUMMARY OF DUTIES

Under the supervision of the Director, Recruitment and Communications, the Communications Officer participates in developing, managing and implementing communications plans and strategies that reflect the strategic plan and branding strategy of Saint Paul University (SPU).

Principal Activities

  1. Support SPU’s internal and external communications needs by ensuring that the content of all communications issued via the institution’s various channels and platforms is clear, concise and accurate.
  2. Write, produce and disseminate corporate communications tools (brochures, posters, videos, photos, ads) and specialized tools for specific customers.
  3. Develop and deliver (to tight deadlines) a range of messages, bulletins and news releases for students, staff, faculty and the general public.
  4. Participate in designing and developing electronic communications and marketing tools for use on the SPU website and social media.
  5. Participate in the preparation of content for the SPU website and publicity and promotional campaigns by writing articles and key messages, editing and proofreading written texts, and, when needed, monitoring external suppliers.
  6. Organize public relations and media relations activities. Write press materials; respond to media requests; brief spokespersons (key messages, etc.). Coordinate media relations and media coverage of events, including recruitment activities, special events, official visits, etc.
  7. Participate in organizing events in terms of content and provide logistical support to customers.
  8. Collaborate on preparing all speeches for special and corporate SPU events (awards ceremonies, etc.).

Carry out other related duties assigned by the Director to meet the needs of students and faculties and support SPU’s recruitment efforts.

Experience :

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Undergraduate university degree or equivalent – a major in communications or journalism is an asset
  • Three (3) years’ relevant experience in a related field (e.g., information, public relations, corporate communications)
  • Sound knowledge of communications tools management (print, electronic media, etc.), and excellent writing and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent command of English or French (spoken and written)
  • Solid grasp of the second official language (English or French)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
  • Proven ability to analyze issues and solve problems
  • Knowledge of the use of the Web and social media in a professional setting
  • Ability to work independently, under pressure, and as part of a team
  • Attention to detail and concern for customer service
  • Very good knowledge of the MS Office suite
  • Flexibility to participate in certain special events in the evening as required
