The Faculty of Theology: faith seeking understanding,
faith nurturing meaning
In the words of St Anselm, theology is defined traditionally as faith seeking understanding. Theology seeks to give a rational discourse for our beliefs or in the words of 1 Peter 3:15, to be ready to give a reason for our hope. Rooted in the Roman Catholic tradition, and embracing other Christian traditions — Ukranian Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican, as well as others, the Faculty of Theology serves the Church by seeking to express the faith in a way that is responds to the needs and concerns of men and women today. It seeks to provide with academic rigour a critical reflection on the Church’s beliefs in fidelity to the Scriptures and the Tradition.

In a multicultural and pluralistic context, the Faculty also serves the broader society by promoting an intelligent reflection on the major ethical issues of our times. With its diverse programmes, the Faculty contributes to the formation of qualified leaders for Church and society. Inspired by the Gospel, and in the missionary tradition of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, the Faculty continues to be an important voice for the building up of the Church and the development of a compassionate society.
