The Counselling Centre opened its doors in 1974 at St. Paul University and is part of the Faculty of Human Sciences.  It acts as a training facility for students enrolled in the Master of Arts in Counselling and Spirituality program.

The Centre offers bilingual counselling services to individuals and couples from the community at large.

Counselling services are provided by counselling interns under the supervision of professional and accredited counsellors. These counselling interns are enrolled in the 2-year Master’s program in Counselling and Spirituality at St. Paul University.

Professional fees are below average and are negotiable, depending on the client’s situation.

 MISSION

The Counselling Centre, St. Paul University

 The Mission of the Counselling Centre includes three mandates:

 1. to offer students who are doing the Master of Arts in Counselling and Spirituality, clients in order to complete their professional training (supervision / practicum);

 2. to provide counselling services, both in French and in English, to the Ottawa-Gatineau community;

 3. to facilitate research for trainers and supervisors in counselling & spirituality.

This year over 70 students will be part of the Centre serving the community by providing professional counselling to individuals and couples.

The students’ progress is monitored regularly by a number of supervisors.  All of these supervisors are insured and accredited members of recognized professional counselling associations (Psychologists, Social Workers, Certified Canadian Counsellors, Marriage & Family Therapists, etc.).  Students become familiar with a variety of approaches to counselling, while being encouraged to develop their own counselling style.

St. Paul has an excellent reputation for offering students this opportunity to work with clients in a supervised setting.  We interact with our clients using a holistic approach that values and respects all aspects of our clients, including their spirituality.

At the Counselling Centre we strive to provide an atmosphere of community, respect, professionalism and excellence for our students and clients. We are proud of the Centre and endeavour to do everything possible to make your experience here professionally productive and personally rewarding.

Come and learn at St. Paul, either as a student in the Master of Arts in Counselling and Spirituality program or as a client seeking personal growth and change.
