Historical Overview

February 5, 1889: creation of the Catholic University of Ottawa (Apostolic Letter: Cum Apostolica Sedes)

1965: The original University of Ottawa takes the name Saint Paul University while the Ontario Government creates a new civil corporation known as the University of Ottawa. The two universities remain federated.

Until 1970: The Faculty of Theology provides articles for a special section of the Journal of the University of Ottawa.

January 1970: First issue of the scholarly journal Église et Théologie appears. It focuses on theological questions and on the study of certain key questions where theology dialogues with the human sciences.

January 2000: At the dawn of its 31st year, Église et Théologie welcomes the challenges of the rapidly evolving world of theological enterprise by taking on a new name, THEOFORUM. As is the university, the Faculty of Theology is a place – a forum – for gathering and for discussion: a theological journal must be a meeting place for questions and issues that bear on the most profound aspects of the human spirit.
