Master of Arts in Theology (M.A.(Th.) and Licentiate in Theology (L.Th.))

Thank you for your interest in the programs offered by the Faculty of Theology at Saint Paul University.

  1. Instructions

    Read carefully the following instructions.

    Applicants must assemble their admission dossier, which will include the following documents:

    1. Application form duly completed

      The following form can be completed electronically and then printed OR printed and then completed by hand in block letters. It must then be sent by mail with the application fee and required documents.

      Application Form

      Requested status: Applicants must indicate under which status they wish to register:

      • Regular: registered towards a degree or diploma
      • Special: registered for courses but not a candidate for degree
      • Auditor: registered for courses without having to fulfill academic requirements and earns no credit.

      The candidate must register in a concentration (Biblical Studies, Ethics, Eastern Christian Studies, Spirituality, Systematic and Historical Theology). To be admitted to a particular concentration, the candidate must have demonstrated a certain level of knowledge in the concentration chosen.

    2. $80 (Canadian) application fee paid by cheque, money order, credit card or debit card and $100 (international students)
      (non-refundable)

    3. Official transcripts
      * Regular Students:

      Ask for your transcript(s) at the institution(s) you attended (secondary and post- secondary levels).

      If possible, transcript(s) must be sent directly to the following address:

      Saint Paul University
      Admissions and Student Services Office
      223 Main Street
      Ottawa, ON CANADA K1S 1C4

      If this is not possible, transcript(s) should be placed in a sealed envelope, signed across the flap and then given to the applicant.

      * Special students and Auditors:
      Photocopy of transcript and/or diploma is sufficient.

  2. Other Required Documents

    Applicants must include these additional documents in their admission dossier:

    • Two (2) letters of recommendation
      The candidate must supply two reference letters (on forms provided by the Faculty. The references should be written by persons from an academic milieu. Recommendations play an important role in the Faculty of Theology’s admission process to graduate studies.

    • Confirmation of passive competence in second official language
      The Faculty of Theology’s graduate studies programs are bilingual, offering candidates a unique opportunity to study in both English and French. Applicants must have a mastery of one of the two official languages of the University (English and French) and a passive knowledge (ability to follow lectures and to read) of the other language.

    N.B. Any document not written in English or French must be accompanied by an official translation in English or French.

Students whose knowledge of the language is deemed insufficient may be required to complete successfully additional courses in either English or French before they can resume their studies in Theology.

Meeting all the admission requirements for a program of study does not automatically lead to a candidate's admission.
