Congratulations to Global Affairs Canada scholarship recipients Leticia Maria Gil Martinez and Laura Paola Pena Santamaria of the Dominican Republic

Saint Paul University (SPU) is proud to award two scholarships provided by Global Affairs Canada to Leticia Maria Gil Martinez and Laura Paola Pena Santamaria of the Dominican Republic. The scholarships, worth $7,200 each, are provided through the Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program.

Both recipients are studying Social Communication.

For Leticia Maria it’s a dream come true. She hopes these four months of study will help her improve her language skills in English and French, and looks forward to learning more about Canada. She appreciates our country’s cultural diversity and intends to take full advantage of it by connecting with people from a variety of backgrounds. For now, she is amazed by the beautiful colours of the turning leaves and can hardly wait for the first snowfall. Secretly, she wouldn’t mind meeting Prime Minister Trudeau!

Laura Paola worked hard to earn this scholarship, and her efforts paid off. As she puts it so well, “Receiving a scholarship is an honour; receiving a scholarship from another country is a double honour.” She intends to take full advantage of her stay by learning all she can about Canadian culture, and hopes to go home filled with ideas that will help her make the world she lives in a better place.

The university community wishes both recipients a very happy stay in Canada and every success in their studies.
