Vatican II Centre Conference: Being a Church of Mercy
Vatican II Centre Conference: Being a Church of Mercy - Saint Paul University, Ottawa (Nov. 2016) |
|
Announcing a Jubilee Year of Mercy, Pope Francis declared that in Jesus, the face of the Father’s mercy, the Christian discovers a “bridge that connects God and humanity, opening our hearts to the hope of being loved forever despite our sinfulness.” He invites all those who have encountered the merciful love of God to renew their efforts to practise the works of mercy. During this day of theological reflection on the theme of mercy, we invite contributions to the study of (1) biblical perspectives on divine mercy; (2) the cry for mercy in contemporary challenges of violence, discord, and poverty in all their forms; (3) the contemporary practice of the corporal and spiritual works of mercy; and (4) implications for the conversion and reform of ecclesial structures and practice, so that the life of the Christian community might better incarnate a culture of mercy and love. | |
