9/11 10 years later: "Risks and Security: New Paradigms of Conflict and Peace"
Conflict Research Centre, Saint Paul University, and the Centre de recherche sur les relations entre le risque et le droit, Faculté libre de droit, l’Université catholique de Lille
Research symposium, Part 2
Security returned as a central theme of Western political discourse after the 9/11 attacks. The first part of this symposium took place in Lille in September 2011 and was entitled « Conflit et risque : évolution et nouveaux enjeux de la sécurité et des droits de l’homme ». It emphasized the impact of 9/11 on international relations and on the protection of human rights. It also invited participants to reflect on the redefinition of political issues related to security and governance.
The second part of the symposium will take place on February 9, 2012, at Saint Paul University. It will deal with the consequences of such a redefinition of the conceptualization of conflict and peace. It will examine how the repositioning of risks and security issues modified international relations and conflictual intranational dynamics, as well as the values on which peacebuilding interventions are currently grounded.
